Mount Mascal Stables Unaffiliated Summer Dressage Series
Our Summer Sunday Dressage Series started on 19 May – a fine day despite early foreboding cloud. Classes took place on grass with good ground in both newly fenced arenas. The event ran smoothly with competitors commenting on their enjoyment of the relaxed and well run atmosphere.
Class 1, Intro A with a respectable 11 competitors was won by visiting competitor Danielle Finlay riding dapple grey Ned. Class 2, Prelim 1 had the highest entries with 15 riders competing. Emily Ward riding Forest, a very nice looking bay, took first place. Class 3, Prelim 4 was a no restrictions open opportunity, especially helpful for Novice competitors wishing to ride a warm up. The lower entries were therefore a little surprising. Winning combination - Alexa Rule & Caveys Irish Gem, last year’s Prelim Series Champions. Special mention should also be made in the class of Lily-Mae Gibbard riding her pony Here Comes Trouble. The pair are much improved returners and took 3rd place. Class 4, Novice 24 was won by Mount Mascal Stables riding school combination, Debra Richardson on Diamond. This partnership has been honed during riding school sessions at the yard over some time now. It is clearly enjoyed and benefitting both rider and this lovely Irish sports horse mare. Congratulations also to young rider, Sian Goldfinch riding Galaxy at Novice level for the first time and achieving 3rd place behind Katie Spinks and The Oz Experience in 2nd.
Carley-Ann Hartigan, Secretary for the day reported “I would like to express my appreciation of three people from the Mount Mascal Stables community who helped the event run so well. Our Take Back the Reins riders Ilsa Emerson-Hahn, a maths teacher whose skills came in very useful for double-checking scores and placings and Sue Emerson who took photos & managed gate duty. Also, Pony Club Centre Member, Rosie Wood who volunteered her time towards her Silver Young Equestrian Leaders Award. I hope all our competitors enjoyed their day. It was great to see three local visiting combinations take three out of four 1st places and a Mount Mascal Stables riding school combination win the final class. And, although the competition is unaffiliated, the standard of turnout and presentation is very professional. At this stage, the Series classes are looking very closely fought. We wish everyone good luck and look forward to Round 2 on Sunday 9 June. And entries remain open for riders who wish to compete for individual classes in the rest of the series.”
Finally, thanks to our judges, Hilary Grant (Classes 1 & 3) and Diane Patterson (Classes 2 & 4). Your time and knowledge is valued and much appreciated.
